Council whittles down tax rate, budget

Following a delay of more than an hour, the Springtown city council Thursday, Sept. 14 heard from a couple of citizens during public hearings conducted in reference to the city’s tax rate and budget for upcoming fiscal year 2017-2018.
Because the city is required by law to hold the public hearings, and to publish their dates and times on a strict schedule according to the budget process, the hearings had to be conducted that night to keep the city in compliance.
But council members Richelle Pruitt and Michele Kelley were en route to Springtown from Waco, and alerted other city officials they would not arrive until about 7:50 p.m.
