Citizen forum removed from council agenda

Mayor says public speaking opportunity not required by law, will speed up meetings

The November meeting of the Springtown city council had just adjourned when council member Greg Hood pointed out there was no citizen forum listed on the agenda for the meeting.
“And we’re getting out of here at 15 [minutes] ‘til 8,” Clayton replied.
Meanwhile, a man who had come to the meeting to address the council during the citizen forum could be heard in the foyer of City Hall, airing his concerns in a loud voice.
“Wait, wait… why do we not have a citizen forum?” council member Richelle Pruitt asked.
That’s when City Attorney George Staples appropriately shut down the discussion.
“Guys, I’m sorry to do this to you, but once you run out of agenda items, you have to stop talking,” Staples cautioned. “Y’all can take that item up some other time.”
