Members of Parker County Emergency Service District 1 (ESD 1) are headed to California to assist firefighters from across the country in battling the largest wildfire in that state’s history.
Along will members of 31 other fire departments, Station 48’s Captain Mike Ellis and Station 37’s Firefighter Steve Green flew to Sacramento Wednesday, Aug. 8.
There they will meet up with ESD 1 apparatus Brush 34, a Type III wildland engine shipped to the area earlier this week, to serve at the Mendocino Fire Complex in Lake County, California.
That fire has already destroyed 411 square miles. Cost for the deployment is covered by the State of California through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact.
The firefighters are expected to spend the next 14 days battling the blaze.
This is marks the sixth deployment for ESD 1 through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System.
