Hilltop Family Church is a relatively young church in the area. Founded in November 1991 by John Conway, the church will turn 27 later this year.
Darrell Mathis has been at the church since its first service in 1991 and is now the pastor. Mathis, who became the pastor four years ago, says that Hilltop Family Church is all about loving the Lord and loving people.
“We try to train up people in the ways of the lord. It’s just a loving, welcoming fellowship,” Mathis said.
Sunday School starts at 9:30 a.m. followed by the main service at 10:45.
Mathis says the services feature contemporary worship and that first-time guests can expect to be comfortable and relaxed.
AWANA is a children’s program offered for kids in grades 3-6. It begins on Wednesday nights at 6:00.
The church also has a youth program starting at 6:30.
For adults on Wednesday at 7, the church has a program called “Quick Charge.” The messages for these services are designed to be short and relevant to the modern hustle-and-bustle lifestyle.
The church also has many other events throughout the year, such as bible studies and service projects. One of their biggest annual events is the “Project Faith Works.” The project involves members of the church of all ages, but especially youth, doing home repairs for those in the community who need it. There are also many Bible studies and worship events throughout the week.
“It’s not just a work project. We’re trying to change lives spiritually,” Mathis said.
From June 17-21, Hilltop Family Church will host a Vacation Bible School for children in grades K-6. Each night, dinner will be served at 5 and the event starts at 6.
Mathis said he wants new guests to know that Hilltop is a church where people will feel comfortable.
“You feel the love of the Lord here through the people,” Mathis said.
