Springtown ISD is hosting two meetings for stakeholders to discuss the creation of a “School Safety Committee.”
The first took place June 13, and the second takes place tonight Thursday, June 14 from 6-7 p.m. at the district’s administration building.
The purpose of the planning-level meetings, and any eventual committee formed from them, is to expand the district’s anti-bullying programs.
SISD Superintendent Mike Kelley said that parents who addressed board members at the May 21 meeting were unable to receive the feedback they were looking for due to Texas Open Meeting Act regulations prohibiting board members from responding to issues not on the meeting’s public agenda.
During that meeting four individuals spoke to the board for five minutes each about bullying issues their families had experienced within the district.
Kelley said that in addition to providing an opportunity to those parents to get the feedback they were seeking, the goal of the two planning meetings is to talk about the district’s resources, and how it can partner with the community to develop a more uniform approach to the subject.
